Intime Immigration Solicitors are professional experts in handling different types of UK Visa and Settlement Applications.
The Skilled Worker visa replaced the Tier 2 (General) visa category on 01 December 2020. If you are an ‘experienced worker’, you can reside in the UK for up to five years. A stay of over five years would require an extension, after which you can apply for an Indefinite Leave to Remain.
The UK Skilled Worker visa is a long-term work permit that allows you to live and work in the country for up to 5 years, with the length of time determined by your Certificate of Sponsorship. It is important to note that the visa is only valid while you continue to work in the same role with your sponsoring employer. If you wish to change jobs or employers, you must apply for a new Skilled Worker visa.
To be eligible for this visa, you must secure a job offer and meet the eligibility criteria, which are outlined in the application process. You can consult our best skilled worker visa solicitors or attorneys to discuss your requirements!
You must have a confirmed job offer before applying under this category and must show that you:
You have the Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) issued by the approved sponsor/employer.
You are certified with approved English language Proficiency.
The job offer you received is from the eligible occupations list.
You are granted or offered a minimum salary under the Skilled Worker visa from either of the following options i.e.
o £25,600 per annum, or
o The standard salary for the type of work you are currently doing or
o £10.10 per hour adjusted according to your occupation.
Cost to apply for the UK Skilled Worker Visa
Depending on your circumstances, the cost of applying through the Skilled Worker route varies between £615 – £1,423.
Additional charges to apply for UK skilled worker visa
– Healthcare surcharges—£624 per annum
– Additional living expenses of at least £1,270 to prove that you are financially stable to
support yourself when you enter the UK for work
Skilled worker visa fee exemptions
An exemption applies to workers living in the UK for 12 months on a previous valid visa.
Hence, the employer is covering the expenses for the first month of their recently offered job.
Moreover, if you belong to the eligible EU/EEA countries, your application fee will be automatically reduced to £55. You may qualify to pay fewer application charges if your job is on.
If you wish your family members to join you as dependents, they can come with you to the UK if they are eligible.
However, only the following family members can accompany you:
Your husband or wife proposed civil partner or unmarried partner; you must submit
the evidence of a ‘subsisting and genuine relation’ of living together for at least two years.
Your child is under 18 years of age, born in the UK.
Your child above 18 if they are already in the UK on another visa, i.e. studying in a
boarding school, college, or university, but must not be married or have any children to qualify for the requirements.
Furthermore, it is essential to note that each family member must submit a separate visa application and pay the total application charges to get their visas approved
To apply for the UK Skilled Worker visa, the sponsor is subjected to identify the relevant SOC code for the role using the ONS occupation coding tool and check to see if it is eligible by cross-referencing it with the list of eligible jobs. If any incorrect SOC code is being used, the Home Office may refuse the visa application. Healthcare professionals working in the UK health or adult social care sector should consider the Health and Care Worker visa, which is particularly designed for health sector occupations and offers a pool of benefits such as a lower application fee and exemption from the Immigration Health Surcharge etc.

To apply for a Skilled Worker visa, the applicant must submit an online application with all necessary documents and pay the fee, provide biometric information at a visa processing centre, and apply up to 3 months prior to their intended employment starting date in the UK as stated on the Certificate of Sponsorship.
The applicant must provide the following documentation:
The Home Office will thoroughly evaluate the application based on the points obtained under the points-based system. However, having a genuine job offer and a valid certificate of sponsorship does not guarantee the issuance of a Tier 2 visa. The applicant must still meet other eligibility requirements and the Home Office will assess potential grounds for refusal, such as criminal history or previous immigration violations.
The process for applying for a Skilled worker visa in the UK is complicated. You are advised to consult top-skilled visa lawyers or attorneys to get your visa approved on time.
A Skilled Worker visa is typically valid for up to 5 years. After 5 years, the visa holder may apply for Indefinite leave to remain in the UK or extend their visa by reapplying, as long as they continue to meet the visa requirements. The visa can be extended multiple times. If the visa holder changes employers or sponsors, then you need to apply for a new visa.
The Skilled Worker visa has replaced the Tier 2 (General) visa under the UK’s new points-based immigration system. The Skilled Worker visa is applicable for EEA nationals seeking to work in the UK starting January 1, 2021, and for non-EEA nationals applying for entry clearance or permission to stay in the UK from December 1, 2020. The new visa is similar to the previous visa, but there are some changes made to simplify the process for both sponsors and applicants.
You can extend your stay for a maximum of 5 years. There is no limit to how often a skilled worker visa extension can be applied.
Starting January 1, 2021, all EU nationals, except Irish citizens, who plan to work in the UK will require a visa, unless they are eligible to apply for settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme. To meet the eligibility criteria of the scheme, an individual must demonstrate that they arrived in the UK before December 31, 2020, 11:00 PM and submit their application by June 30, 2021.
